Ivanhoe v Old Citizens - 19 April 2008

On a cold and damp afternoon the standard of cricket played was a tribute to both sides .  Old Citizens won the toss and put the Ive’s into bat.

Built round an unbeaten 118 not out from Mat which belied the conditions, good contributions from Phil Parnell (29), Denis (21), Bob (14) and Malcolm (10) resulted in a final total of 202 for 4 in the alloted 35 overs.

After a quick warm up during the tea break Ive’s took to the field, woolly hats, hoodies and all and against a spirited opening stand of 78 from Old Citizens, who at that point were up with the run rate, battled throughout the 35 overs in worsening conditions to leave Old Citizens at the close of their 35 overs on 158 for 8 with good knocks from Saldanna (38), Knight (32) and Holden (39). All the bowlers contributed fine spells – Mat Martin 0-24, Adrian 0-17, Saj 2-26, Andy 3-25, Phil Parnell 2-21 and Denis 1-19.

A fine win for the Ive’s in the first game of the season
