Ivanhoe v Arkley - 10 July 2010

First ‘time’ match of the season and possibly on the hottest days so far Adrian won the toss and asked Arkley to bat.

In the late absence of Max, Andy C opened for the first of a marathon spell of 14 overs with Richard (7 overs 0 for 29) sharing the new ball.  Andy struck with 2 early wickets, caught behind by Bob and by Malcolm of a skyer, but whilst the scoring was kept to a reasonable for 4 an over the 3rd wicket partnership prospered before the introduction of Ciaran (7 overs 2 for 41) induced the Arkley opener to edge behind to Bob.  Thereafter wickets fell regularly with Andy C finishing with 4 for 62 from 14 overs including a well caught catch low down at cover point from Adrian to dismiss the no 4 bat for 54.

Adrian then continued where he left off last week taking 3 for 11 in 3.4 overs and Phil P nipped in with 1 for 25 from 4 overs as Arkley were dismissed for 174 just before tea. A good effort all round in the heat.

In reply Adrian couldn’t mirror last week’s effort with the bat being dismissed early but Bob (13) And Phil K in particular set about rebuilding the innings and although Bob departed with the score on 25 and the Ciaran (6) a few runs later Phil’s big hitting 44 kept the score ticking over with a 50 run 4th wicket stand with Richard (14). Phil P with a welcome 26, and at the end of the innings Malcolm 15no and Sid 9 no could not quite keep up with the required run rate as time ran out with the Ives score on 153 for 6 and a creditable draw in a game played in the right spirit by both teams.
