Ivanhoe v Ley Hill - 24 April 2010

First game of the season, a cloudless sunny day and a 10 wicket win.  What better way to start the new season.

Adrian won the toss and put Ley Hill into bat giving Richard (1 for 18) the honour of bowling the first spell.  Having seen the 3rd ball slashed wide of slips for 4 the first wicket of the season fell to the 5th ball when the batsman attempting to repeat his earlier shot was well picked up low at 1st slip by Andy H.  Max opening the other end bowled a tight 4 over spell for only 5 runs.

Andy C then replaced Richard picking up 2 for 31 in 5 overs and with Andy H bowling his usual tight spell and picking up 3 wickets for 17 in 8 overs, wickets fell regularly and only Thompson with 44 held the Ley Hill innings together as Denis pitched in with 3 for 12 in 7 overs. Adrian brought himself on but missed out on the wickets as catches by Chris B, Malcolm and one behind for Phil K, and a stunning run out by Andy C with a direct hit from 30 yards brought the Ley Hill innings to a close for 100 after 31 overs.

In reply Bob and Adrian navigated a potentially difficult 10 overs before tea without mishap. After tea Bob and Adrian scored quickly to win the game with 13 overs to spare by 10 wickets, with Bob hitting the winning runs with consecutive 6’s over square leg finishing on 44no. and Adrian 43no. for a fine 10 wicket win.
