Ivanhoe V Southill - 23 May 2010

Glorious weather, glorious setting but for the first time this season not the result Ives were looking for.

Having elected to bat Southill got off to a good start despite a tight opening 9 overs from Andy H and Max.  Having missed Southill’s opening bat in the first over he took advantage of his luck to score 57 before being bowled by Phil P.

After that apart from Max (who was certainly man of the match) with a spell of 0 for 32 from 8 overs and Adrian 3 for 38 from his 8 overs including  a catch and stumping by Phil K and a good catch from Bob at midwicket all the bowlers suffered.  Andy H came back at the end but with Southill’s No 6 looking to hit everything to the boundary in his 76 finished with 1 for 52 from 8 overs, Phil P 1 for 79 and Den 0 for 57. Helped by a couple of catches not being held and one or two misfields in the soaring heat Southill closed on 263 for 5.

A win always looked unlikely but with Adrain (19) staying with Max after Phil K and Bob departed early, 96 was put on for the 3nd wicket and hope lived on.  However once Max departed for a fine 83 wickets fell regularly and the innings closed following a cameo knock from Andy H (14no) and Chris B (5no) on 164 for 8 and the first defeat of the season.
