Ivanhoe v South Loughton  -  5 July 2008

Firstly, having dusted off his trusted willow for the first time in 17 years a warm welcome to Andrew Hausler playing his first games for the Ive’s, and to Ben who we’ll see on the pitch soon, and Angela.

Having lost the toss and being put in to bat Ive’s suffered early setbacks firstly with Den out LBW for 1 but and more seriously with him on his way to hospital to continue his catalogue of injuries over the past 3 seasons with two broken ribs from being hit by a beamer in the second over of the game. Hope to see you back soon Den.

Bob (7) soon followed Den but a 55 run 3rd wicket stand between Malcolm (28) and Phil (46) steadied the innings and another good knock from Earle (26) set up a late flurry from Andrew (11no) and Andy (22), including a trademark 6 from Andy not seen for a few years, allowed Ive’s to close on 169 for 8 from their 40 overs.

In reply South Loughton started well and had 24 on the board after 4 overs and a difficult afternoon for the Ive’s looked on the card. However from there the bowlers took control and the innings virtually ground to halt.  Phil P (8-2-19-1) stepped up to the plate to bowl quick for the first time this season and thanks to fine bowling from everyone:   Andy (8-4-18-1), Adrian (7-2-8-2) and Andrew quickly getting back in to his stride (7-2-16-), Ciaran (5-0-15-0) and Richard (5-0-13-1), and not to mention 2 catches for Malcolm and 1 for Richard, the inning finished with with South Loughton never in the hunt on 96 for 6, for Ive’s 8th win of the season.
